Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancourt has resumed full training but is still weeks away from returning to the English club’s first team. The 2022/2023 season for the Uruguay international ended back in February when he injured his left knee in the 4-1 loss against Leicester.
The former Juventus man scored six times in 26 appearances for Tottenham last season and is close to returning after eight months out, but will not be in the squad for the visit of Fulham on Monday. “No, he won’t be in the squad,” Spurs manager Angelos Postecoglou confirmed.
We have to be careful with it. He’s training hard and doing pretty well. But we have to keep in mind that he missed a lot of games and I think it will take a few more weeks to choose the right moment,” added Postecoglou.
Christian Romero and Hyun-min Son will be available to the manager. Romero injured his ankle in Argentina’s 2-0 win over Peru earlier in the week and Son was in discomfort in Korea Republic’s 6-0 win over Vietnam despite playing the full game and signing off.
“It was quite a positive break for the national teams. All the nationals are now back. According to medical examinations, there are no serious problems with the boys,” explained Postecoglou. The Tottenham manager has revealed that Dejan Kuluszewski is feeling fine after Sweden’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Belgium on Monday. βI spoke to him, he is fine. He trained yesterday with the others and is ready to play,” added Angelos Postecoglou.
